our mission

To be an innovative agency
that fosters personal growth and
facilitates community development through service

our vision

Agora means something different to different people. For some, it can be a gathering place for conversations. For others it is strictly social. Others may come for the cultural events, for spiritual enlightenment or to participate in group  activities.

Agora is a nonprofit organization that has at its center a vibrant used bookstore which supports the organization and emphasizes the artistic, cozy atmosphere. Comfortable chairs like a living room invite people seeking quiet reading time or informal conversation. The walls are a showcase for original local art. The bookstore is strategically located in the middle of downtown Mason, on the corner of Mason-Montgomery Road and Main Street.

Agora encompasses much more than just the bookstore. A significant component of Agora is community action and involvement. After hours, the store becomes a  meeting space for clubs, conversation groups, workshops, films and literary readings.

what we do...

WORKSHOPS
Whether it’s a seminar on money management, an evening of personal growth, an acting class, or perhaps practical advice on health, parenting, or finance, there is something for everyone on our calendar.

CHILDREN PROGRAMS
The children’s corner is one of our largest section, here children can read books, and play. Puppet shows are held weekly, and much more…

COMMUNITY ACTION
Volunteers from Agora are connected to local charity organizations, such as homeless centers, thrift stores, etc.

ART AND CULTURE
The monthly Creative Circle is an open group for beginner and more expert artists. We are looking to host poetry nights where featured artists read and then give way to an open mic, literary readings and concerts all make for intellectual and creative enrichment.

COMMUNITY GROUPS
Inviting forums for discussion and self-exploration. Support groups also meet at the bookstore on a regular basis.

SOCIAL EVENTS
Every weekend, movie lovers gather to watch a film in comfort. Cultural nights are held, where the food and entertainment have an ethnic theme. There are also game nights, and special events.

SPIRITUALITY
The spiritual calendar will include occasional readings and thoughtful discussion.

RECREATION
Ski trips, hikes, biking trips, camping, etc. give members of the community a chance to mix and bond outside the confines of Mason.

we gladly partner with Individuals, organizations, and local businesses that share with us an interest in making a difference in the community and would like to implement community-oriented initiatives and programs.
